In an aim to create a smoother online browsing experience, we introduced a predictive search tool to enable the user to search and find items quickly and easily. It was my responsibility to think about the user experience behind this and design an effective predictive search that would improve engagement and increase conversion rate.
One my most important aims for the functionality of this search design was for it to be engaging and intuitive.The suggestions were based on the product database, as well as the user’s browsing history.
In order to limit the amount of failed searches from misspelled words, a drop-down list would appear beneath the search box with a list of suggested items. These popular and trending suggestions would be higher up and easier to see. The system creates this dynamic list to try and ‘predict’ what the user was searching for.
